What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy (Meso-thera-pie) is the breakthrough medical practice that allows patients a non-invasive remedy to a variety of conditions, including:

• Cellulite
• Unwanted fat
• Wrinkles and aging of the skin
• Redundant (sagging) skin
• Aged hands
• Excessive skin or fat on the neck

Mesotherapy is the medical specialty that involves injecting microscopic quantities of traditional medication, homeopathic medication, and vitamins into the mesoderm, or middle layer of skin, acting as a “medicinal bullet” that is delivered directly to a target in the body. Orally administered medication, on the other hand, is distributed throughout the body. Mesotherapy allows a much smaller dose of the same medicine to be injected directly at the site of the problem, into the skin, with the skin acting as an efficient time-release delivery system. Mesotherapy works by stimulating the body to heal itself in those targeted areas.

The technique was formulated in 1952 by Dr. M. Piston in France, and was recognized by the French National Academy of Medicine in 1986. Dr. Lionel Bissoon has been practicing Mesotherapy since 1999 and has pioneered its acceptance in the United States. (Author; “The Cellulite Cure”–credits from Denise E. Mesotherapy can be used to eliminate cellulite on the legs, buttocks, and various parts of the body. By repairing the connective tissue, shrinking the fat cells and increasing circulation, Mesotherapy can rid these areas of the “orange peel” like skin, thus revealing a smoother and more even-toned appearance.

The same principles that allow Mesotherapy to eliminate cellulite can be used to rid other areas of the body of excess fat. Mesotherapy can be used to eliminate double chins, “love handles” and any other area where your body pockets fat. Mesotherapy is a vast improvement over other treatments such as liposuction because it is a non-surgical procedure that does not require hospital admittance, general anesthesia, or downtime. It can promote weight loss. The fat deposits flush out of specific areas and the body does not gain the weight back in other areas, which often happens after liposuction.

Answers to common questions about Mesotherapy

Is Mesotherapy and Lipodissolve the same therapy?

No. Mesotherapy and Lipodissolve are two entirely different entities. Mesotherapy refers to the process of injecting vitamins, homeopathic, or pharmaceutical agents to treat a specific region of the body.

Lipodissolve is a term that was coined to describe a formula that is used in mesotherapy.

When will I see results?

Results vary based on your body type and the condition being treated but on average, patients notice visible improvement in two to three sessions. In some instances, patients see results after the first session.

Will the results last?

The results do last, especially when combined with exercise and proper nutrition. However, we cannot stop the natural aging that affects your appearance. For this reason, maintenance visits are recommended.

Are the treatments painful?

A slight pinching or burning sensation may be felt when the microinjections are given. A topical anesthetic cream may be administered to make the treatment virtually painless.

Are there any side effects?

A common side effect of Mesotherapy is bruising, which generally resolves over on week. To speed up the healing process, we recommend that the homeopathic supplement, arnica, be taken either orally or applied topically on a daily basis. Temporary soreness may also occur.

Are there any restrictions?

General restrictions vary with conditions treated and will be discussed before treatments are administered. Patients are advised not to wear makeup for at least 4 hours after facial treatments, not to take hot showers for at least 6 to 8 hours, and not to exercise vigorously for at least 48 hours after Cellulysis treatments. Prior to treatment, patients are recommended to eat a meal high in protein and to avoid caffeine.

How much does it cost?

The total cost of Mesotherapy is based upon the nature of the problem being treated and the number of sessions needed to achieve the patient’s desired results. The cost of a Mesotherapy treatment session is set by the practitioner.

Prices are subject to change at any time without notice.
